Good News from Mayville State University

FALL 2012: HEADCOUNT = 1020        FULL-TIME = 614          FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT =

1.      Mayville State’s 1020 headcount is the largest ever!  990 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students (our 2nd year of graduate credit)

2.      26 local teachers are participating in EDUC 800 which now falls under the auspices of continuing education and as of fall 2011 is no longer calculated as part of the official count to the state.

3.      38 states are represented at MSU, the same number as 2011 and 41 in 2010. North Dakota is the most represented with 627 (61%) students, followed by MN with 139 (13.6%–a slight increase).  CA has 48 students represented.  

4.      This year 154 First Time Full Time Freshmen are enrolled, compared to 150 last year and 133 in 2010. FTFTF from North Dakota jumped to 88 from 68 in 2011 and 81 in 2010.  Out of state FTFTF dropped just slightly from 2011. AK (8), CA (5 – down from 14 last year), MN (26 – down from 29 last year), IL (1), MI (1), WI (2 – down from 6 last year), Florida (3 – down from 6 last year), Idaho (6 – a jump from 2 last year).  States dropped from the list: HI, NH, NJ, TX & WA. New to the list include AZ (2), MT (4), NE (2), and NV (2). Five First Time Full Time male international students enrolled this fall – duplicating fall 2011 numbers.  Two Canadians and one Australian participate in basketball and one Canadian in baseball. One male is not associated with athletics.  29 returning international students (7 from Zimbabwe, 1 from Ghana, 1 from the UK and 20 from Canada) round out the 34 international students for fall 2012. This is a jump from fall 2011 (27).

5.      First Time Full Time Freshmen males (79) are down from 99 reported fall 2011.   FTFTF females (75) are a jump from 51 reported last year. Traditional age students ages 18-21 make up 49% of the 990 undergraduate students this fall.  That compares to 47%, 44%, 48%, and 47% respectively dating back fall 2011 to fall 2008. Eight more full-time males (319) are registered this fall compared to Fall 2011 (311). Full-time females rose by 41 (295) up from 257 fall 2011.

6.      Dual Credit numbers declined to 123 from a high last year of 167.  15 of the 123 students have chosen to continue their enrollment with Mayville State as First Time Full-Time Freshmen.

7.      The majority of MSU’s student body continues to be white/U.S. citizen at 80% (816) compared to 83% (805) in 2011, 82% in 2010 and 81% in 2011. There are 204 U.S. students indicating a race other than white compared to 165 in 2011, and 179 in 2010. These numbers include our distance learning population. The minority race categories Black (61) and Hispanic (45) set records this year.

8.      The “Primary Major of Students Enrolled” shows a rise in these majors:  Business Admin (BAS), CIS (BAS), Biology, Communication, Early Childhood, English, Fitness & Wellness, Health, Math, Sports Mgmt, University Studies, Studies in Educ, Early Childhood Ed (BSED), Comp Social Science, Elem Ed, and Health Educ.

9.      “Class Size Enrollment” report shows the average class size of 15.89, compared to 15.42 in 2011, 16.73 in 2010, 17.02 in 2009, 13.66 in 2008, 16.15 in 2007, 18.37 in 2006, and 18.76 in 2005.
